It\u2019s extremely sharp and only becomes slightly dull after years of use (but you can sharpen them). They\u2019re virtually indestructible unless you drop them or hit them hard against something. They\u2019re hard but brittle, so you do need to handle them with care.<\/p>\n

How should I use the tools?
\nTungsten carbide is so sharp that it takes some getting used to. <\/p>\n
A few tips:<\/p>\n
– Use leather-hard clay (it can be slightly harder as well). Clay that\u2019s too soft causes \u201cchattering\u201d\u2014small indentations in the clay that add texture to the surface. Nice, but not always desirable!
\n– Grip the tool very firmly, with your index finger on the brass or even all the way down to the base of the turning loop itself.
\n– Reduce the turning speed if you lose control.
\n– Stabilize your hands. If possible, use the fingers of your other hand to help control the tool.
