MKM Pottery Tools, LLC was founded in 2003 by Rick McKinney. The first set sold by MKM, such as the Decoration Discs, turning tools and various lomers, were tools Rick had developed for his own use in his studio.The Decoration Disc really got MKM off the ground.He made some himself and what he didn’t need he sold.Over 10 years later, Rick is still selling many tools.
From the beginning, MKM specialized in tools that were not yet on the market for potters. Of course, there were already a number of different lomers on the market, but not bowls, plates and mini lomers. Of course, ceramicists can make their own stamps, but it is quite a learning process to get just the right curve in the stamp. In addition, homemade stamps are often not continuous, and dimensional to create large patterns. Stamps work better when angled edges are made on the stamp, so the corners don’t tear and the stamp releases easily from the clay. This is also difficult to achieve with homemade stamps.
All MKM stamps and rollers are factory carved by MKM employees who guarantee quality. Quality in original blank wood material, design, finish (Teng oil) and of course good service to our customers.
The wood used for the rollers is refined and precisely cut. The wood is recycled from the furniture industry.The special oil used creates a self-curing/ protective layer on the wood is. This means that the tools are much more durable than other untreated wood tools or tools treated with another oil.
