At Blue Bucket Tools HQ, each mini sieve is made from durable, chemical-resistant PETG (the same plastic used in water bottles) and durable 304 stainless steel mesh.
Our co-founder, Jeff Campana, has been deeply involved in glaze research for over 25 years and even has a popular recipe for a clear cone 6 glaze that you may have come across. He teaches glaze chemistry at the university, and last semester he realized there was a need for a better sieve. This sieve was born out of his frustration with other options on the market—which never seem to fit standard beakers, containers, or paint sprayers; lack ventilation, requiring them to be vented; can’t be hung on a hook; and are so difficult to clean. Let’s also not forget that the small sticker indicating the mesh size falls off, forcing you to estimate the mesh size by eye forever.
This is the only test-size screen on the market that has been specifically designed with the user experience in mind. We didn’t just glue together some PVC pipes from the hardware store; we designed the product from the ground up, based on our experience with thousands of test glazes processed over the years. Sifting glazes isn’t anyone’s favorite activity, but it is important, and we dare say that with this sieve, it can even be a little fun.
