Maycoshino is a variegated iron glaze with subtle color changes. When applied thinly, the user gets rich, iron-brown hues. Applied thicker, the user gets lighter, creamy hues reminiscent of traditional Japanese shino glazes. This glaze is beautiful on any surface, any clay body color.

Cone 10: The color becomes darker to gray/brown.

TIP: One coat gives solid red-brown coverage; Two coats gives a cream-brown finish that breaks brown over the surface texture; Three coats gives waves of cream-brown color over the red-brown base.

Description

One of the most distinctive features of Mayco’s stoneware is that the glazes offer consistent performance and intriguing visual interest. They are best known for their responsiveness and favorability to the user, both in application and firing. Mayco Stoneware glazes are kind to the user in application, layering and firing. Many glazes break over textures, revealing secondary colors and shades. The choice of clay body, thickness of glaze applied, firing process and temperature affect the fired results.
