Cone 6 oxidation: Sparkle Black Engobe burns matte black with metallic speckles. The speckles may provide texture. Very stable.
Cone 10 reduction: No change in base color. Stains bloom and become matte. Remains stable.

Engobe is a great option for people who want the look of other clay bodies, but don’t want another clay in their studio because of contamination. With just two coats, Engobe can turn a red clay body into white or a white clay body into black, so you can have a different clay body every day of the week!
TIP
Can be applied to wet clay, greenware or soft fired, cone 04 bisque. Engobes are often used for various decorative techniques, such as sgraffito and majolica. Fires matte. Apply clear glaze to intensify color or for use on dinnerware. Engobes affect glaze results when used as a base. Engobes are used to change the color of your clay surface without cross contamination and easily cleaned up in your studio. Can be used in oxidation or reduction firing. Results may vary. Choice of clay body, thickness of application, firing process and temperature greatly affect fired results. Always test the application on your clay in your kiln environment.
