Cone 6: Green Jasper is a shiny, transparent white glaze that breaks over texture. Contains metallic green and blue crystals. Base color is stable, crystals can create movement.
Cone 10: The base remains. Crystals shift to metallic red. Light application recommended.
Not suitable for tableware
Tips:
– Green Jasper uses SW250 White Opal as the base glaze.
– When opened, the crystals are concentrated at the bottom of the bottle. Stir/shake thoroughly before each use.
– Crystals can cause movement. Avoid a high concentration of crystals at the bottom of your workpiece.
– When storing a crystal glaze, you can store it upside down to make the crystal more accessible.
– Can be used in oxidation or reduction fires. Results may vary.
– The choice of clay body, the thickness of the applied glaze, the firing process and temperature affect the fired results. Always test in the kiln, on the clay body.

Stoneware crystal glazes are designed to expand on the surface with dazzling bursts of color. Firing results vary depending on the orientation of the glaze. The crystals sink to the bottom of the pot and must be well mixed before first use. Stir again between each layer. Stir with a palette knife or other unpainted tool. Do not place crystals near the bottom third of a vertical piece, as they may cause additional movement during baking. Crystals flow more than the base glaze. While the glaze is wet, use a fan brush to redistribute the crystals for balanced coverage. Too much or too much application of the crystals can cause pinholing or run-out. If you are storing a crystal glaze, you can store it upside down to make it easier to spread the crystals on the next use.
The chips shown are fired flat on a body of white clay fired to cone 6 oxidation and cone 10 reduction. The choice of clay body, thickness of glaze, firing process and temperature affect the fired results.
