The wooden bats and tools can withstand water just fine. Even when turning with a lot of water consumption. But they are still wood. So do not immerse them in water to wash them off and certainly do not soak them in water.
After the turned workpiece can be removed scrape the clay residue off the bat. Further polishing can be done with a damp sponge and then dry to remove most of the water.
Just let them dry quietly at room temperature. Definitely do not use a dryer and do not let them dry on the heater. It is recommended to let the bats dry horizontally and stack them back together with a solid weight on top (e.g. a pack of clay).
INLEGBATS
The inlay bats are made with a minimum of clearance to turn as stably as possible. If the bats stick a little after turning, gently insert a wooden spatula (also available from Julius Handmade) or a flat screwdriver into the thumb grips under the inlay bat and push it upward. This will then come off smoothly. Above all, do not wring so as not to damage the wood.
If over time the insert bats become harder to get out of the motherboard, take a small block of wood and fold a piece of sandpaper over it (#120 or #150). Then lightly and evenly go along all sides and corners of the insert bats. You may also lightly include the edges in the sanding. Always sand lengthwise, not crosswise! Do not over sand and regularly check that they fit back into the motherboard smoothly. Don’t sand away too much as you run the risk of them becoming too loose.
